Sera Monastery is about 5 kilometers north of central Lhasa; founded in 1419 by Shakya Yeshe, was one of the Lhasa’s two great Gelupga monasteries, second only to Drepung. This monastery is worth visiting in the late afternoon when debating dance is usually held in the monastery’s debating courtyard.
